The Just Desserts

Now this is funny. I bet Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter didn't think anyone would go after HIS house when he ruled that towns can take private property under eminent domain laws for PRIVATE development. Well, Logan Darrow Clements of Freestar Media is trying to do just that.
I have mixed feelings on this. On one hand, I don't think it should happen because I don't agree with the law at all. On the other hand, I think it would be good for Justice Souter to get a taste of what his ruling does to others. I bet when he made the ruling, he thought this would never happen to him.

Those were the days

I was cleaning out some old papers today when I came across a receipt for gas. At the Kerr McGee gas station at 801 N.E. 12 st in Moore OK on 1/31/1994 I paid 87 cents per gallon. Now, I wish I could find gas for $1.87 a gallon....

A new INJUSTICE

Most of us are aware of the laws of Eminent Domain. This is the law that allows the Government to take your property, while paying you fair market value, for public use. This is used most often for things like building new roads. However, MSNBC reports:

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that local governments may seize people’s homes and businesses — even against their will — for private economic development.

That's right folks! You're home may now be taken, by force, for a new hotel or strip mall!! I wonder how long before ALL waterfront property becomes commercial.
An informal vote at msnbc.com shows that 97% (out of 65492 responses) of the voters think this is wrong. ARE YOU LISTENING CONGRESS???? Because now that the Supreme Court has ruled that it will allow states to dictate this, the ONLY way to change it is for Congress to act. If you would like to contact your Congressmen, here is a list of Senators and a list of Representatives.

Batman Begins

Heather and I went to see Batman Begins last night. I liked it! I think it was the best Batman so far. The only complaint I had at all was that some of the fight scenes were dark and things were moving fast which made it hard to see and follow what was going on.

I went to NH and Maine this weekend to help Mom and Larry make it home. They are now back in Hampden. Hopefully things will continue to go well.

What a sucky day!

I didn't even make it into the building at work this morning before I was being told about the things that were broke. I started working on fixing those and took a break to accomplish something that has needed to be done for a while now. I got that half done when I got a phone call from Mom. The Doctor called with the results of Larry's blood work. He said it was way off and we needed to get him to the closest Emergency Room ASAP. Mom didn't even know where the closest ER was AND the exterminator was already on his way for our scheduled appointment. So I left work and went home to wait for the exterminator while Mom took Larry to the hospital. After work I went to the hospital to see what was going on. Larry was admitted because his coumadin levels are supposed to be between 2 and 3 and they were at 17. They were afraid he was going to end up bleeding internally. So we left Larry at the hospital for the night and came back to pack up the truck because Larry's daughter Cindie is already on her way down from Maine to pick up the truck and take it home. What a mess!! Now, I'm just tired. So, I'm off to bed...

A New Hampshire officer called Immigration after stopping a couple of illegal aliens. The Feds refused to come and said "write them a ticket and let them go". The officer didn't think that was good enough so he arrested them for trespassing. Their trial is pending. If the Feds aren't going to do their job, the local police will find a way!

Larry was discharged today

Larry was discharged from the hospital today. He and my Mom will stay with me for about a week to make sure everything stays going well before they head back to Maine.

Gelstat Corporation has teamed up with other Migraine Fighting organizations. They are sponsoring the non-profit migraine disease awareness and support program "Fighting Migraine
Disease." They also launched a program whereby $0.50 will be donated
to migraine-related non-profit organizations for each coupon redeemed off its website (http://www.gelstat.com/newcoupon.asp).

A good day

We took Larry out of the hospital and came back to my house for about 8 hours today. It was a great day. We sat outside on the deck. It was about 80 and sunny with a light breeze. I cooked burgers on the grill. John, Sue and Michael came over for a little while and brought a variety of salads and made a strawberry shortcake. We also munched on some cookies and whoopie pies that Julie and Jen made. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better day.
We brought Larry back to the hospital around 6pm. He is supposed to be released on Thursday. They want him to stay here with us for around 5 or 6 days after he is released to make sure everything stays going well and then they can go back to Maine.
